Over the past three years, there has been over $20 billion in cuts to education.
This has meant that school districts across the state have had to make painful cuts to many program, laying of 40,000 teachers and thousands of classified staff.
We are now 49th in counselor to student ratio.
Many districts have been forced to eliminate art & P.E. programs.
Many districts have been forced to reduce the school year by five days and further reduce the teacher work year by up to 8 days.
This is a crisis as the cuts to education reach the most severe levels since the Great Depression.
Something can be done and if you live in California, especially in a district that is represented by a Republican state senator or assembly member, urge them to pass a state budget that includes the tax extensions to save public education.
The fact that the Republicans have already denied citizens the right to vote on tax extensions and have further undermined the will of the people by fully suspending Prop 98 if an all cuts budget occurs, makes me angry.
They need to held accountable. All it takes is two members from the Assembly and two members from the Senate to vote with the Democrats and agree to these tax extensions.
Start calling your state senator and assembly members by calling CTA's toll-free #1-888-268-4334. You can also go to CA State of Emergency for more information.

It's disgraceful.
Wow, that is awful.
The mind boggles, doesn't it?
Let me play devil's advocate for a second. How much would it have cost taxpayers to put together a special election? And besides the last time it was on the ballot, it got squashed 2 to 1.
I'm not looking to take any more furlough days, but there is a ton of other places to make cuts before raising my taxes again. Millions in welfare to illegals, millions for the prison system, and a lot more.
Education has been taking cuts of 10-15% for the past few years. What about welfare or prisons...less than 1% every year. So once again, before you raise my taxes again...cut there first.
