Christmas Traditions

1. We always get our Christmas tree after December 7th because that's my daughter's birthday. With her birthday in December, I have always felt it was important that her birthday be just as special as everyone else. This is in large part because my mom's birthday is December 19th & she got used to people just lumping her birthday with Christmas.

2. When we do decorate our tree, I always fix home-made cocoa using Hershey's cocoa. The cocoa is often topped with marshmallows or whip cream. I also always put a candy cane in each cup. Sometimes I spike the cocoa with amaretto for my husband & me.

3. Homemade fudge is usually made the week-end before Christmas. It will probably get made tonight or tomorrow. This year & last, I added chocolate dipped pretzels. I also made some home-made bark this year.

4. Presents are usually wrapped on Christmas eve & brought down after the kids go to bed. This has been made more difficult since the kids are older & are up all hours of the night.

5. Any gifts wrapped before Christmas eve and are underneath the tree are usually eyed by the recipient. We usually pick one gift to unwrap on Christmas eve after dinner.

6. My husband makes a wonderful Christmas breakfast with ham, potatoes, toast, and scrambled eggs.

7. We often crash on Christmas afternoon with exhaustion from the previous week.

8. We always have a great Christmas with whomever shows up!

Great traditions! Ours are in flux right now; my husband's mom died in July and she usually hosted Christmas Day. We finally decided(two days before) to have his family over to our house--so that will be crazy! Enjoy your goodies.

Have a great day!

We do a strata for breakfast because I can make it the night before; we pair it with homemade cinnamon rolls.

And yes, the crash happens.

I delay some Christmas things, too, because my husband's birthday is the 17th. It's so hard to keep a separation but I know it makes his birthday more special if I do. It's great that you do that for your daughter.

Love the code names for your children. I'm still working on mine; Surly Teen Boy will work for a couple of years but I have to get better ones for the other two.
